Horse Rescue at Crossing Arrows Ranch

Contact Us Today!

At Crossing Arrows Ranch, we believe in second chances—not just for people, but for horses, too. Many of the horses who come to our ranch have faced neglect, abuse, or uncertain futures. Just like the individuals we work with, they carry their own stories of hardship and resilience. Our mission is to give them a safe place to heal, thrive, and, when possible, find new purpose in our equine therapy programs.

Meet Our Rescues

Raven & Firefly: Mustangs Torn from the Wild

Raven and Firefly, two resilient mustangs, were once running free before they were rounded up and torn from their families. The sudden and traumatic separation from their herds left them frightened and deeply mistrusting of humans.

When they arrived at our trainer in Idaho, they were fearful, unsure of their new environment, and unwilling to trust. Slowly, through patient, trauma-informed training, they began to understand that humans did not have to be a source of fear. Now, at Crossing Arrows Ranch, they are continuing their journey of trust and healing. Their story mirrors the journey of many of our clients—moving from fear and survival into relationship, connection, and choice.

Sonny: A Guiding Light Despite Blindness

Sonny, our blind rescue horse, radiates warmth and trust despite the challenges he has faced. His name reflects both his golden coat and his sunny personality. Sonny was donated to our ranch by a kind-hearted family who could no longer stand to watch him suffer from neglect in a neighboring field. By the time he arrived, he was completely blind, having endured years without proper care or attention.

Most blind horses rely on a herd for safety, but Sonny has found comfort in human connection instead. He greets visitors with a gentle nuzzle, always eager for interaction and companionship. His presence in our therapy program reminds clients that even in uncertainty, trust can be built. His story teaches us that vulnerability does not mean weakness—it is simply another path to connection.

Why We Rescue

Horses are powerful, sensitive creatures who often endure mistreatment, abandonment, or neglect. Many are discarded due to age, injury, or lack of training. We step in to provide:

✅ Rescue & Rehabilitation – Medical care, proper nutrition, and patient training.
✅
Sanctuary & Safety – A forever home for horses who cannot be rehomed.
✅
Restoration & Purpose – Integrating horses into our equine-assisted therapy programs, where they help humans heal.

When a horse is ready and suited for it, they become partners in trauma-informed equine therapy, creating life-changing connections with veterans, first responders, and trauma survivors. Others simply find a peaceful retirement at the ranch, living out their days surrounded by care and kindness.

Interested in Donating a Horse?

If you have a horse that is in need of a new home, we may be able to help. However, due to the nature of our program, we evaluate all potential horse donations to ensure they are a good fit for our rescue and therapy work.

Horses We Accept:

✔ Sound & Healthy – Horses must be in overall good health with no severe medical conditions that require ongoing intensive care.
✔
Safe Temperament – We cannot accept horses with a history of aggression or dangerous behavior.
✔
Fit for Our Program – Horses should be trainable and capable of participating in equine-assisted therapy or sanctuary life.

Our goal is to ensure that every horse that comes to the ranch is given the care, patience, and purpose they deserve. If you’re considering donating a horse, please reach out to us for an evaluation to determine if they are the right fit for our program.
